Note from our Mayor

August 25, 2019

My name is Jim Swafford and I’m mayor of Ferris.

Yesterday, I received a report from staff that our east (Yellowjacket) water tower was running low on water. Staff and I went through all protocols possible to try to determine the source of this problem. Demand was very high on the east side of town and our downtown pump station was not able to keep up.

During this protocol process, two valves near the Western Hills tower were turned on, water started filling the east tower and the problem appeared to be resolved.

We are encouraging residents to conserve as much water as possible to allow the entire water system to recover.

The Police, Fire Departments and Volunteers were assisting on hand in passing out cases of bottled water. This was done in an abundance of caution in the event the east tower went dry. That did not happen.

I want to thank all of the Public Works staff, Police Fire and volunteers and citizens who cooperated in conserving in helping us to prevent a water outage crisis.

Mayor of Ferris
